More Precious Than a Rainbow
By Don Iannone

Some where in time
lies a magnificent rainbow
with your name on it.
Some where outside time
lies an inner emptiness, far more
precious and lovely than your rainbow.
No where and at no time
has the reality of your own being
been more clear and powerful
than in this very moment.
Reach out gently,
and touch its wing, without grasping--
at yourself or the moment.

There is always a better way to put it. This is one of the better ways.

Occasionally I get there in meditation. It always surprises me how much is on offer. Most of the time, of course, I miss these riches.

Imemine...thanks. I am enjoying your poetry too.

Dan...as always. Thanks for your inspiration.

Rob...this poem can directly out of a meditation yesterday. All is an illusion...including the riches. But enjoy your illusions since we all have them.

Now, the interesting thing is I wrote this poem just before going to dinner last night. There was a tremendous thunderstorm here (in Tucson) and at the end there was a rainbow as we got to the restaraunt. I felt it inside--sheer synchronicity.

Never looked at it quite this way before -- something to think about.

Identifying with something greater than our own finite, mortal selves, and doing that in the here and now - the key to experiencing beauty while you can. Something like that, I think, but your poem evokes something of it instead of just talking about it like I just did.

I'd add: and the key to surviving great adversity with integrity.

The moemnt is "all" we have. The rest a sophisticated illusion.
