Summer Haiku
By Don Iannone

golden buttercups lightly in summer breeze
......remembering youth

morning glories play
...sweet summer adagios
......listen with your heart

water lilies float
...where chanting bullfrogs echo
......across sweetwater pond

Don, I appreciate how you match each kind of flower to the feelings they evoke in me.

Golden buttercups indeed do bring me back to those youthful days of picking each petal and reciting, "He loves me," or "He loves me not."

Morning Glories sing their song early each day, telling us, "It's another glorious morning; live your day to the fullest."

And water lilies: Watching them float atop the water, listening to the bullfrogs, I try to immerse myself in the sounds, sights and scents of nature that are surrounding me, and whenever I feel sad or worried about life itself and the future, this soothes my soul.

Thanks Darlene. Always glad to spark those pleasant memories lingering within.

hi don,
This poem made me feel so
very peaceful.
It is beautiful!

Hi Samuru999,

Glad it had that effect. Haiku uses the spaces between words more than many other forms of poetry. Not just the physical space, but the mental and consciousness space there. Thanks.
