Snowy Forest Peace
By Don Iannone

I long for the snowy forest,
where the lone owl
speaks between snowflakes,
and where the wind takes my hand
leading me off into oblivion,
and where the quiet is so loud
I can't hear myself think,
and where the cold biting air
snaps reality like frozen tree limbs,
and where I find peace
waiting in silence under the giant hemlock,
and where God appears as sunlight
through snow-covered branches,
and where I stand awe struck
with tears streaming down my cheeks
for no reason other than my feeling alive.

Beautiful poem Don!
Lots of peace in a snowy forest!
It was such a summery day here...
I cannot imagine snow yet though!

Margie thanks, and stay with your Colorado summer as long as you can.

I've been standing awestruck myself a lot lately in similar situations. Heartbreakingly beautiful sometimes.
Love!

i'm not looking forward to winter as it lasts way too long for my liking here. but there are moments when even i stand awestruck at the beauty of it all.

Thanks Polona...I know what you mean but my soul wants to experience the deep forest snow.

Deep big forest snow....scary thought and gives me a fear of being lost....but then Don I get your message...to be found in that place would be an experience which you have righly used as a metaphor to finding god

Dumbdodi...thanks. Never can be lost when we are in god's midst. Right?

Don,
Thank you for taking us there with you. "I stand in awe struck with tears down my cheeks for no reason other than my feeling alive." I am there now.

Thanks Serenity. Nature has a way of striking what is deepest in all of us.

what words. //and where the quiet is so loud
I can't hear myself think,//....felt this before so many times, wish we were more careful with out scavenging, now the earth is bare and we can only dream of such places...we wish indeed.

Great poem!
