Sifting Sand
By Don Iannone

Life sifts
...like sand
...through open outstretched fingers.
No hourglass to contain it.
No beach providing a gestalt.

We play with it
...like some game
...we can win.

Don't bother tying up loose ends...
all ends are loose.
Just let it flow through you
...and wash you up on shore.
Celebrate wherever you are...
you're dead if you don't.

It fills us...
only to empty us
...spilling us on the floor
...abandoning our hope
...leaving us bare
...rubbed raw
...and finally...
just leaving us.

Excellent. I really like this idea that all ends are loose.
This poem speaks to me big time.

Thanks Floots and Rob. Yeah, it's hard to get life off our minds...it's all we know...

oh, don, i love this one! life is all that, and much more, depending on our choice...

p.s.
all's fine with me, thank you.

as to the winter in my neck of the woods... we had a foot of snow this time last year ... this year much of august was no warmer than the first half of november (save a few cold days)... statistically we're having the warmest autumn in a century...

Thanks Polona. Thanks for the "picture" of your woods.

Ours is rainy and colder, and soon there will be more snow. It's nice to have a roaring fire in the fireplace on those long dark evenings.
