Sweet Corn
By Don Iannone

Ripe corn.
Ready for pickin'.
Golden yellow
as the sun.
Sweet
as sugar
dipped in honey.
Silk tassles
dangling
in the summer breeze,
tickling fantasies
into submission.
Succulent kernels,
dripping whole butter
on taste buds erect.
Bursting forth,
redefining truth
as sensual pleasure.
And for this,
a year of stretching,
growing,
and finally
all this giving yields
ninety seconds
of utter pleasure.

Dear Don, You chose the wrong profession, you were born to be a farmer :-)

Don - I enjoyed your poem about something so simple yet familiar to all of us.

Hey Don.
This is cute. I really, really enjoyed it. Thank you.

Sooooo, what makes a person become a life coach? The ability to look at another person's plight objectively? Being a good leader? The quest for world domination via making everyone think like you... Like that bond villain Dr. Phill?

Dumbdodi...thanks. made me laugh. You are probably right. Just returned from a client visit to a rural area of Pennsylvania. The poem just jumped out at me seeing all that corn.

Jen...thanks. Yes indeed, sweet corn is an icon of late summer in the midwest. Thanks for stopping by.

Frida...thanks. Glad you liked it. Why life-coaching? Definitely Dr. Phil envy. LOL. It's a logical transition for me. After spending 30 years working to transform organizations, communities, and the leadership associated with both, I decided it was time to focus more on individuals. It also coincides with my spiritual direction and new educational training path. I'm easing in to me. As they say, don't give up your day job. (Smile)

Don, one of the few pleasurable memories I have of living in your great State was pulling corn out of the field and roasting the ears over a fire in a 55 gallon drum. Scrumdelicious!! Poem ain't bad either!!

I have reading your comments in Amias. Maybe what it worth the try to send her book as you have read her book and recommend it to Oprah or those who read her book. I would have done it if I was in USA ...

I think we are on the same wavelength in thought today ;) Even the simple act of eating some wonderfully sweet juicy corn is unfortunately something so many rush through and forget to "experience". In the busy and overscheduled lives we are leading, we tend to forget the sensuality that is to be found in everyday experiences, as we rush on to the next activity we have scheduled. Thank you for the reminder with such magnificent imagery.

Thank you Mike, Dan, Flickering Flame, Pat, Iamnasra, Rob, Polona, Kathleen, Serenity, and Polona.

Very much appreciate all you stopping this country vegetable stand and enjoying the sweet corn.

Seriously, all of you are a great inspiration for me to write. Thank you.

Pat...I will trade you some Ohio sweet corn for some Georgia peaches.

Dan...you KNOW what this is all about.

Kathleen... get yourself a toothpick.

Mike...butter is your choice.

Rob...even the American Indian were "a-maized" at corn.

Polona...thanks. The corn goes well with just about anything.

Flickering Flame...thanks and yes corn is very simple but full of flavor...just how life should be.

Serenity...just one word for you: "Savor!" Whether it's corn or Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young.

Blessings to all!
