More Gives Way to Happiness
By Don Iannone

Searching for more,
looking everywhere,
leaving no stone unturned,
traveling to far off places,
turning my life inside out,
hoping to find there is more.

Wanting there to be more,
discovering finally I am only
following my wanting for more.
Wanting nothing more,
having nothing left to want,
ending my wanting,
happiness appears.

Yep!
in the not wanting, we are fulfilled
in the not thirsting, we are satisfied

Want only for that which is spiritually uplifting
Thirst only for that which quenches the thirst

Thanks Don! Wishing you a fine day

Thanks all...Pat, Quasar, Kathy, Mike, Dumbdodi, Margie...

As a young boy, I always wanted more. I never felt I had enough. In part, that was a reflection of not growing up with much in a material sense. More, more, more...

It's amazing how these early attitudes become a part of us over time and how they manifest in almost everything we do...more money, bigger house, more powerful friends, more education, etc. etc. All because we attempt to feed our illusory ego that keeps getting bigger and bigger and more fragile and demanding.

The message this fine morning: Let the special star in your heart shine and fill you and all you touch with love. That's all we need.

Wonderful Don...! very in sink with something I am going thru... great.

Also love your message of the day...
"Let the special star in your heart shine and fill you and all you touch with love. That's all we need."
AMEN! (what was that about church...? :)

Yep; our feeling of lack and the deluded search for what seems to be missing is just what keeps us from what we seek...

The "simple" secret to happiness! Thanks for the reminder, Don!

Don, you once again reach right out and get into the heart and lives and spirit of your readers. The seeking we struggle with outside ourselves inevitably leads to our own unhappiness. It is a constant challenge to return within, and though the things we seek outside may vary from one to the other, the ending of the wanting..so simply stated...yet a constant reminder...is where our true joy lives.

Thank you so much for the wisdom and beauty in your words. You are a blessing.

May you have a glorious day of joy and well being.

Blessings.

yes, when you quit looking for more, "more" comes to you in a different shape.

Don...I know what you meant when you said you wanted more when you were a boy...

I want more too...more time, more money, more opportunities....and more education...i feel exactly the same..
I don't want from others but I want more from myself and my life...

Am I going wrong in wanting all of this?

Don Iannone, D.Div., Ph.D. said...

Dumbdodi...thanks for sharing what is in your heart. As they say, our honesty will set us free.

From a Buddhist standpoint, wanting is the source of all suffering in life. Therefore, the more we want, the greater our potential to suffer. In my life, I have come to realize that what I want is not so important as the how much of my time I spend "in want." Wanting pulls us from the moment--the here and now.

Is it possible to completely cease wanting? No. Can we get in touch with what lies beneath our wanting, and can that help us to suffer less about about our wanting? Yes.

A question I have learned to ask myself is this: "Who is it that comes before all this wanting, and am I my wanting?" That question can lead us in a direction of suffering less about our wanting and learn to feel fulfilled in our lives no matter what we have materially and otherwise.

Does this help?

Blessings to you.

Don I hear what you are saying...it even goes inside..but only so much...
Then a voice in me says...oh all you are asking for is a house...a masters...a car.....money so that you can secure lives of your loved ones...they are basics in life...thats not asking more...

But the voice said that before...and i got somethings I wanted..but I still want more...:-)

Well we wait till I get the things I just listed..will see I get those..will I stop asking for more

It sounds and is zen-ic.
In Dutch we say "zennig" instead of "zinnig", which means sensible. Zennig means both sensible and senseless or crazy.

Dumbdodi...all of us want. The important thing is to "have" yourself and then see where that leads you.

By the way, I am not opposed to material things and money. Read Deepak Chopra's book on Creating Abundance and Prosperity. Google it. You are at that stage in life where it is important to create a foundation. That is quite important.

Thanks Dean...the Kierk is right.

Imemine...thanks. It could be just that...zen-ic.
