I am One
By Don Iannone
I am one with the sun, moon and stars,
whose vastness makes me feel small and insignificant.
I am one with the flowers, birds and trees,
whose beauty erupts all about me in spring.
I am one with the deer and coyote
playing hide and seek in the forest behind us,
whose instinct outmatches all thinking.
I am one with the gentle wind--
lifting my spirits above the clouds
to where there is always light.
I am one with all sound--
both audible and beyond
creating music in my heart.
I am one with all notions of the divine,
including those denying my ability
to be one with all, and all with One.
I am one with with all sentient beings,
whose happiness and pain
are my happiness and pain.
I am one with all--
beyond whatever seeks to separate
because ultimately there is only...One.

Yep! Me too!
Another bullseye!
Dan,
Yep. Thank you oh seer--the one who is One and who sees beyond all looking.
Jewish S-expert...Thanks for stopping by. Please feel free to visit often. Best wishes, Don
That sense that ultimately all is One, and originally was One, is at the least a strong intuition - but I think that more than this, it's suggested by the interconnectedness of life even as we know it now. Not just religion, but science too assumes that everything is one thing. If it were a world of forces acting with complete independence, it would be much less intelligible considered even in strictly empirical terms.
You have taken a leaf out of Walt Whitman's book and I am sure he would have approved.
Very sweet poem.
The living breathing organism of universal life. My weekend beer-soaked brain cells are really having to stand up tall, but they need a jolt back to reality. Great poem Don!!
I agree!
"I am with all--
beyond whatever seeks to separate
because ultimately there is only...One."
I always believed we can only be one with the ONE!
Pat,
Beer-soaked, eh? Sounds like poetic justice to me. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
Gautami...Thank you. Just One!
Rob...just call it Whitman 2006. Thanks.
Darius...thanks for stopping by and commenting. Indeed science and religion are finding greater common ground.
Yet, their explanations remain different. For science, it remains a matter-energy-based universe and one that started with matter, and for various religious traditions there are different starting points. For some, it was a supernatural onset with a divine spark. For others, there is no beginning and no end.
Consciousness--not just human, in my book, is causal, is primary to matter, and goes all the way down. Matter is also real, but only because consciousness is inherent within it. Consciousness is what makes it all One.
Vivien,
Thanks for saying that. It is harmoony too, especially when there is a 'harvest moon.'
