Poetic Steps Toward a Bleacher Seat in Heaven
By Don Iannone

Perhaps the best thing I do in life
is birth a single poem every day.
It seems the greatest defense
against life's bitter illusions,
trounching last drops of honesty
inhabiting my ageless soul.
Perhaps the only thing qualifying me
for even a remote bleacher seat in Heaven
is the early morning verse tumbling
from my heart into my fingers, and finally
onto the blank page before my eyes.
Poetry in and of itself can't save us, but
can you imagine life without poetry?

No, I cannot imagine it. Perish the thought!

Cosmic Karma could it be
one minute light, one minute bright
the next all flesh turns to dust

But alas, it must be that what became flesh with flesh does rot,
or no longer shines, I believe not.

For we are all purified, as with refiner's fire - BK will say if not in this life in the next. But saddest of all is to see new things bright fall or forsake it all for a moment of fleshy delight.

Then again if the fall was written into the script - it is only for us to see how easy it can be to rise again. If we do not learn this we learn nothing at all, and carry on to fall deeper and deeper into the null (and void)

'Impermanent being'! (Make) 'Poetic steps towards a bleacher seat in heaven' – 'Spread the wings of your love'. I like these three. Poetic steps in particular. Reminds me of a story of a young boy who has just died. The most beautiful from a collection of his dead butterflies, presented to an angel in total humility and sincerity, is what opened the door of heaven for him… For some, poetry is journeying to heaven on a daily basis!?:) The rest of us travel there here and there!:)
