Secrets
By Don Iannone

You walk into a place
and just know,
it's filled with secrets.
Not necessarily your secrets,
but those of others
whose mystery hides
in the secrets they leave behind.
They let you know they're there
without letting you know what they are.
At first, it seems
like a ridiculous hide-and-seek game,
but soon you realize
it's no game at all.
Our secrets give us away.
They let others know of our mystery.
They let others know
we are like them.
They let others know
we are like them...

Sometimes one wonders is good not to divulge too much of ourself to others ... so as to retain that hint of mystery and secrecy.

keeps others wondering.
Like this Don!

Thanks Nasra, Trinitystar, and Janice.

Every place and everyone has secrets. They cloak the mystery within us.

This poem was prompted by spending a couple days with the Sisters of St. Joseph in Cleveland, a unique community of contemplation and action. I sensed that many secrets abound in the four walls of the community. I also sensed these secrets were in safe-keeping.
