Life If We're Not Careful
By Don Iannone
Success knocks,
it never stops,
once you answer.
Money beckons,
only illusive wealth comes,
and just more wanting.
Power lures,
once caught in its snare,
hooked forever.
Time demands,
taking away,
the better of who we are.
Selfishness sets in,
filling the space,
meant for compassion.
Control overtakes us,
clenched in its ugly jaws,
never letting us go.
Death comes,
finally we see clearly,
it's too late to do it right.
