First Dates with Life
By Don Iannone
The mid-morning sun pours buckets
of summer color onto the forest floor,
Something stirs in the quiet shadows,
A pair of fawn playfully prance
in their proud mother's footsteps,
Their coal black eyes beam
with the radiant curiosity of youth,
Each day is a first date with life
for the eager young deer,
Every step a lyrical adventure,
filled with unrehearsed beauty,
Once again, Nature fills me with hope.
