Don't Turn Your Back...On Your Poetry
By Don

Turn your back
on your poetry,
and life's magic
slips away,
like the fragile bloom
off a flower.

Turn your back
on your poetry,
and the secret door
through which truth walks,
closes tightly,
leaving our hearts dark.

Turn your back
on your poetry,
and the spaces
between the known and unknown
reappear in life,
causing us to forsake our faith.

Turn your back
on your poetry,
and small things
cease to amaze,
and what was originally given us
disappears.

Poetry is
given to us by God,
a special language,
seeking magic,
expressing beauty,
and connecting us with what is special.
