Pretending
By Don Iannone
We pretend at times
that things are better
than they really are
because we want our life to be
better than it really is.
We pretend at times
that things are worse
than they really are
because we can't stop clinging
to our deepest fears.
When we pretend
we fill in the empty spaces
in our lives
because we cannot accept
our not knowing
how things really are.
We pretend because pretense is a place
where we hide from the truth
that eventually reveals itself
and changes us forever.

  2. Alas Don, it's the only way to live
We cannot on sadness or pain dwell
every moment lost in this way
is a moment which will not return our way.

Of course some pain and sadness is hard to dispel
but one can only try to fill life with joy
sometimes life has its moments its magic spell!

  5. Thanks everyone for your wonderful comments. They are much appreciated. Pretending comes natural to most of us. At times we don't even know we are doing it. This often happens we lapse too deeply into a "role" we play in life and guess what...we pretend to be that role. Blessings to you all.

Marthyan...welcome. First time I've seen you here.
