New Weather Patterns
By Don Iannone
Five-day forecast...
temps in the upper 40's and sunny.
This is late December, and
far from typical weather.
If you don't believe in global warming,
you might want to reconsider, because
the weather worldwide is changing, and
not exactly for the better.
As a youngster growing up in the 50s,
there was always plenty of cold and snow
during the Christmas season.
Now, we face March temperatures in December.
Not exactly what I'd order, but
exactly what we are getting
as I watch the Earth rain cleansing tears
in rememberance of winter's long-lost past.
Tears commemorating a part of us forever gone...
times fallen away like the snow-filled clouds
blanketing us in whiteness in earlier years.
Tears washing us away in time...
leaving us down river from times we knew
so well growing up so many years ago.
I like the way you ended this. Deep.
ReplyDeletethank you for this one especially
ReplyDeleteon dark wintry days
i know that downriver feeling all too well
I have never read a poem about climate change before. What next Don? You seem to cover quite a range of subjects!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rob, Andrew, and Floots.
ReplyDeleteRob...you're right...I seem to jump subjects of my poems...it is whatever my life is.
Floots...the good news about being down river is the larger gulf or ocean lies ahead of us.
Andrew...yes deep. Sometimes I err to the side of the depths. Hopefully still within reach though.
The river never stops. Definitely thoughts to ponder on. Well written.
ReplyDeleteyes, a timely topic, and something to ponder. excellent!
ReplyDeleteVery good, Don!
ReplyDeleteWe just had our 2nd blizzard within a week, so unlike the weather you are having there.
It is sooooo cold, and the snowfall we've had within the past week is the most Colorado has had in 11 years!
Looks like a rough winter for us here!
So, your poem is defintely timely!
Snowed in today!
Margie
How true the glabal warming (I think they call it that was)
ReplyDeleteI love this part of your words
as I watch the Earth rain cleansing tears
in rememberance of winter's long-lost past.
Tears commemorating a part of us forever gone...

blanketing us in whiteness in earlier years.
Tears washing us away in time...

So emotional
PERHAPS DON IT IS NOT TOO LATE TO SAVE OUR WORLD. THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE DOING THERE BEST AND TOGETHER ... PERHAPS THERE WILL BE A CHANCE ... METHINKS THAT IT BRINGS TEARS TO ALL OUR EYES ... FOR OUR CHILDREN ... FOR GRANDCHILDREN ... FOR THE PEOPLE OF THE FUTURE.
