Full Moon Buffalo Clouds
By Don Iannone

Odd buffalo-shaped clouds gallop
across the cold November sky.
I would have missed them completely
were it not for the perfect-circle full moon
glowing hauntingly bright at their backs.
Stripped of their leaves,
the naked skeleton-like trees reach into the sky,
as though searching for answers why
these near extinct clouds roam restlessly--
like my heart, which longs for peace
from its incessant wanderings.
Why does the light torment the darkness so,
and why does my heart suddenly long to be filled
by the moon and her secrets?

  1. Don I feel the same way too. The moon is mysterious and holds many secrets and thats why we are mesmerized by it.

  12. Thanks Nasra. Our hearts wander and we follow them. At times, they lead us to peace and at times they seek and roam, like the buffaloes on the midwestern plains of the United States.
