Reconnecting with the Tucson Part of Me
By Don Iannone
Long eventful week,
The sort filling your soul
with transforming memories,
Tucson, for now, is behind me,
but far from forgotten.
All returns in life
are about remembering,
Tucson was a fond return,
helping me remember--
a forever important part of myself.
Sitting in the slowly awakening Tucson airport,
early morning luminosity fills me,
My soul rises,
Cloud-like dreams drift away,
carrying me back home to Cleveland.
I long for an old part of myself
to stay alive forever,
Tucson is a part of it, and me,
But even more,
the eternal flame of youth cries out in my soul.
"I long for an old part of myself
ReplyDeleteto stay alive forever"
....yes
"early morning luminosity fills me" I'm still trying to learn about early morning luminosity lol
Hope you had a wonderful trip, and that you have a restful, relaxing weekend.
Blessings!
Serenity...thanks. Our souls have a way of longing for reconnection to what they've known and is still a part of them. Enjoy your weekend as well.
ReplyDeleteI need a Tucson!
ReplyDeleteAndrew...Tucson is great because it's great and because, and because it's greatness touched me. Thanks Andrew.
ReplyDeleteHey Jon...thanks. You are a master with your hands. Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteI kept hearing Cleveland Rocks!
ReplyDelete...and how do you keep them on the farm once they have seen Paris?
All kidding aside we do hold a magical view of our childhood. Most of us embellish how glorious it really was after the shock of adulthood hits us between the eyes.
I think that a big part of it was the freedom and the hope that we had as children.
There is a strange comfort in our genesis. A vision of paradise lost. If we believe it ...it is true.
Thanks Don. You made me think of my sleepy little town. When I was a teenager I would drive out to the country whenever I had big decisions to make. I could somehow breathe easier while sitting in my car in the middle of that old one horse town. That's what I felt reading your piece.
Homo Escapens...Cleveland rocks softly. Older cities have to work at renewal constantly. It's a great place to live.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your thoughts. Glad the poem resonated with you. It's always good to remember. And yes, it is easy to fall prey to romanticizing...You're right. Blessings to you.
loved this
ReplyDeletecan't remember who wrote "my own private idaho"
but
your words have taken me to my own private tucson
thank you
Writing is THE elixir of life,Don, as you are proving it to be
ReplyDeleteThanks Floots...well said, my own private Tucson. Thanks for that.
ReplyDeleteThanks Plus Ultra...elixir of life indeed. We all drink of it, but hopefully we aren't drunken of it.
I like the way you have avoided indulging in nostalgia: the last line is very positive.
ReplyDeleteRob...thanks. That's exactly it!
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful poem!

ReplyDeleteReflects like a mirror !!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jac. It is a mirror indeed.
ReplyDeleteIf you substitute "Tucson" with the word "Cleveland," this beautiful poem is about me.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a such a good time, Don.
Stacey...thanks. Hope that you are well. Yes, go Cleveland!!!
ReplyDeleteThe present or the now is a beautiful young lady. You should spend more time with her instead of with the old woman of the past.
ReplyDeleteImemine...thanks for the reminder. You're right.
ReplyDeleteYes it does!! Have had a few memories I wouldn't have minded hanging onto for awhile. Good one Don!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Pat. Indeed hold on to those parts of yourself.
ReplyDeleteHey Don..lovely...can feel your nostalgia and your love for the place
